Mujirushiryouhin Tsunan Campground
Nestled deep in Tsunan Town, Niigata Prefecture, the Muji Tsunan Campsite is a truly pristine Japanese landscape, embraced by ancient beech and oak forests, offering breathtaking views of Japan's largest river terrace formed by the Shinano River below. This welcoming retreat feels like a "hometown for everyone," popular with families, multi-generational groups, and summer camps for children. The diverse campsites blend naturally into the environment, offering a sense of privacy, while bungalows, cottages, and even Muji Huts provide comfortable options for all types of campers. Beyond well-equipped rental gear, a highlight is the array of seasonal outdoor classes, from stone oven pizza making and kayaking on Yakushi Lake to wild edible plant foraging and plant dyeing, alongside a dedicated fishing pond and mountain bike trails. Open from May to early November, each season offers unique charms: spring brings fresh greenery and wild edibles, summer teems with beetles and fireflies, and autumn dazzles with vibrant foliage and starry nights; don't miss the delicious local produce or nearby hot springs. While offering a deep wilderness experience, the campsite is surprisingly accessible, just about 4 hours from Tokyo or 1.5 hours from Echigo-Yuzawa, making it an ideal escape into nature without excessive travel.
